District 5 Maintenance Facility
Knight provided
architectural and engineering design and construction engineering
services for
the District No. 5 Maintenance Facility in Blue Island, Illinois. The
new 24,000 square foot office/maintenance garage building replaced an
existing facility and sits on a 6.5 acre site. Knight’s work included
the demolition and replacement of both the existing facility and an
existing salt storage dome. Our engineering services included a new drainage and
sanitary sewer system and the reconstruction of approximately 3/4 of a
mile of Charles Drive, which serves as the only entrance to the facility
from Ashland Avenue. |

DuPage Technology Park Communications
Facility
Knight provided architectural and engineering services to the DuPage Technology
Park Board for the design of communications ducts and a Communications
Facility at the DuPage Technology Research Park. The Communication
Facility is designed to provide access and management functions to the
fiber optic data and telephone communications carriers. Knight also
prepared contract documents for underground ducts for the installation
of fiber optic cables. The installations of fiber optic and telephone
communication ducts were routed along the utility corridor to the
Communication Facility. |

University of Illinois at Chicago
Retainer Contract
Knight has
completed more than 30 projects for the University of Illinois at
Chicago as part of our Retainer Contract with the University. The
contract initially included mechanical and electrical engineering
projects, but was expanded to include several projects with significant
architectural elements as the University became more familiar with
Knight’s abilities. Knight’s work has included building assessments and
feasibility studies, remodeling and interior design, the design of new
building facades and entry canopies, parking lot design, lighting
upgrades, grant proposal preparation, athletic field improvements,
design and installation of a new cooling system for data closets and
structural analyses. |

Florence Hotel Annex Roof
Stabilization
The Pullman Historical Site on Chicago's South Side was built in the
late 1800's as a model industrial community. Knight provided
architectural and engineering services for the emergency stabilization
of the Florence Hotel Annex roof at the Pullman Site. These
repairs were needed to stabilize the building and protect it from
further deterioration. Our work included removal of existing roofing and
installation of new roofing.
