Schaumburg Commuter Station
Knight provided planning, architectural and engineering design services
and construction engineering services for the modernization of the
Schaumburg Commuter Station on Metra’s Milwaukee District Line. Knight
first reviewed the existing station complex to determine a modernization
strategy. We then developed a station design that blended with the
surrounding architecture. Knight also replaced and extended the
platforms and modified the parking and access road to accommodate the
new station. |

Jackson Street Subway Station
Knight
recently provided architectural and engineering services for the
rehabilitation of the Jackson-Van Buren Streets Station on the CTA’s
Blue Line. The project included design work at the street, mezzanine and
platform levels. Knight’s design concepts will establish the design
direction for the five downtown Chicago Blue Line stations. The
renovated ADA compliant station features a clean, geometric blue and
white color scheme, a new escalator, improved employee facilities,
upgraded lighting, security, fare collection and customer communication
systems. |

National Street Yard
Knight provided engineering and architectural services to Metra for the
design of a new commuter train layover yard with associated employee welfare
facilities. The yard facilities were developed on a challenging parcel of railroad property
adjacent to the Fox River south of Chicago Avenue in Elgin, Illinois.
The long and narrow site required a creative approach to designing an
operationally efficient rail yard capable of
accommodating 115 train cars on five through-yard tracks. Knight's
work also included the design of a 4,000 square foot welfare facility for use by the
train operating, maintenance of way and mechanical
personnel. |
