Pennsylvania Turnpike Long Range Plan
Knight developed a Long Range Plan for the
Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission to guide development of a strategy to
revamp the 22 Service Plazas along the turnpike. The work included
location studies, master planning and design, and recommendations for
the types of services to be provided at the plazas. The project included
extensive public involvement to obtain feedback from the people who
actually use the Service Plazas. The long range plan included
reviewing existing locations and determining strategic locations with
respect to current/projected traffic patterns, new and proposed routes
and population growth; expanded existing single-sided locations and
converting several single-sided locations to dual access; consolidating
under-performing single-sided, single-access facilities into dual access
locations; property acquisition to develop new special operations; site
planning and developing scenarios for service plazas. |

Long Island Rest Area Commercialization
Study
Knight provided site planning, architectural and engineering conceptual
design services for the Long Island Travel and Information Center
located on the Long Island Expressway. Determining the optimum site
development strategy and related site improvements for the Travel Center
required an analysis of existing traffic circulation patterns,
development of facility and parking requirements, analysis of the
adjacent properties’ land use context, and determination of the
character of the surrounding community. |
