IEMA – State Emergency
Operations Center
Emergency
preparedness has taken on a greater importance in recent years. When the
State of Illinois decided to construct the new 47,000 square foot
Illinois Emergency Management Agency – State Emergency Operations Center
in Springfield, Knight was part of the team selected to develop the
facility. Knight provided site design services for the project, which is
located on 5.5 heavily wooded acres, varying in elevation, with a stream
channel cutting through the property. The challenging location required
innovative solutions, such as a lift station for the lower level
sanitary sewer system, relocation of two segments of the existing
drainage waterway and significant coordination and permitting, all on an
aggressive expedited schedule. |

Riverside District
Knight is providing site design services for the development of 62 acres
in Chicago’s South Loop. The Riverside District Development is a premier
residential/retail community and will include both a commercial/retail
component and a residential/infrastructure component. Knight’s
scope of services includes the preparation of contract plans including
general site plans, roadway improvement plans, roadway structures,
railroad structures, site grading plans, sanitary sewer system plans,
water main distribution system plans, storm sewer system plans, street
lighting plans, traffic signal plans, structural tasks and plans,
permits, support documents and construction phase coordination.

Chicago Green Alley
Program
Knight is assisting the Chicago Department of Transportation in
the development of its Green Alley program at various locations throughout the City. Intended to
test various green technologies in real world situations, these alleys
are being reconstructed to develop a range of environmentally
responsible options for eventual use throughout the City's alley system.
The green technologies being used include infiltration of storm water
into the sub-soils through the use of porous pavements, materials
that are environmentally sound, the reflection of light and heat to reduce the "heat-island" effect prevalent
in the City and the use of recycled materials, where feasible.

DuPage County
Technology Park
The DuPage
County Technology Park will provide a modern complex where academic,
government and private sector leaders will work together to develop new
technology and bring it to the marketplace. Knight provided site
engineering services for the development, which is located at the DuPage
Airport in West Chicago. We planned and evaluated roadway design for the
park’s main north entrance at Roosevelt Road and coordinated future
roadway improvements, analyzed traffic flow and evaluated and planed
site utilities. Knight also coordinated and designed the infrastructure
systems that provide electrical power, fiber optics and
telecommunications distribution networks to the Park.
